Najaf, Iraq – March 11, 2004 – CPA Najaf awarded $422,000 to local contractors for the following projects in Najaf: facilities improvement for the Najaf Governorate Building, health clinic renovations, water systems development and repair throughout the province, a bus for a local women’s organization, medical student living quarters at Najaf General Hospital, and the construction of a date palm research center. The awards were presented to contractors and owners of construction companies in a ceremony at CPA Najaf’s offices this afternoon.

In addition to Najaf city, the following neighborhoods and towns in the province will benefit from the creation of hundreds of jobs and community improvements that these projects will generate: Kufa, al-Abassiya, and al-Fathi.

These awards demonstrate CPA Najaf’s commitment to developing local infrastructure and improving the lives of ordinary Najafis. CPA Najaf anticipates releasing several million dollars over the next several months for more infrastructure and community development projects.
