Ministry of Youth

Overall Facts

When the regime was in power the Ministry of Youth was used as a tool to oppress the youth of Iraq. The Olympic Village was the site of an underground prison and housed the offices of Uday Hussein. Now that the war is over, almost nothing remains of the Ministry. Unlike some of the other ministries, none of the former members will be asked back. It will be built from nonexistence starting with a novel Olympic committee.

Points of discussion and Goals

-The location of the new Olympic committee. Some of the possible sites include the Olympic stadium or the Olympic village.

-The elimination of a military presence in the Olympic stadium and giving it back to the Iraqi people
-Bringing the soccer team back to international competition after a 12 year hiatus.
-Who will form the new Olympic Committee?

Facts about the soccer team

The two coaches are former players and sports heroes throughout Iraq. They are possible candidates for the Olympic committee. The team will travel to Saudi Arabia for a conference of the Arabic games for the first time in twelve years. Highlighting this team gives the youth of Iraq positive role models and hope.

Outlook

This was one of the most corrupted ministries under the rule of the regime. World Class athletes don’t have the equipment or the facilities to compete at the international level. The youth of the nation don’t have recreational facilities or fields to play or practice on. It is our job to bring the Iraqi athletes back to international competition and give the youth a sense of pride.
