Iraq’s science and technology infrastructure were badly neglected by the prior regime.  Research and development and information technology are practically nonexistent.  The large number of engineers and skilled technicians in the Ministry of Science and Technology could be the basis for technological growth in Iraq.   Development of Iraq’s science and technology expertise will encourage economic growth in many areas could be achieved at lower cost.  Water salinity, solar energy research, waste water treatment and information technology are all areas that would benefit.  The Ministry of Science and Technology’s goal is to work with both public and private institutions.
