Name Change and Location
- We have combined the CPA’s Human Rights Office and Transitional Justice initiatives (truth, reconciliation and/or justice system to address past atrocities in Iraq) to form a new Office of Human Rights and Transitional Justice. This office performs all of the regular functions of the previous Human Rights Office but now also addresses possible methods for reconciliation and accountability for past abuses under a future Iraqi-led system. There is a larger staff now.
- The Office of Human Rights and Transitional Justice is on the right on the first floor of the Convention Center, and is currently staffed by Internationals and Iraqis. Any Human Rights organization, Iraqi citizen seeking to discuss human rights issues (past, present or future), or other interested party can come to these offices and speak with a member of our staff.
- The “Human Rights Archive” (collection of summaries of past abuse and other evidence of past atrocities) still exists within this new Office of Human Rights and Transitional Justice.
