Announcement Ð Iraqi airports being brought up to standards
May 11, 2003
The Baghdad and Basra International Airports are currently in the process of being brought up to international standards. The Office of Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance is working with the Iraqi Civilian Aviation Authority to quickly restore aviation systems, to include commercial flights. The airports are accepting humanitarian aid flights, but there will be no commercial flights arriving or departing from Iraq for the next several months. No one is currently authorized to sell tickets for any flights into or out of Iraq. There will be an official announcement when the airports have met international standards and are ready to safely accept passengers.
